March 2021 Newsletter ~ A Time of Hope
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”
— Anne Bradstreet
March Greetings
We are a full year into the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. It has been a year of challenges. Some of us may be feeling rundown, lonely, in need of care and connection.
One byproduct of the pandemic is that many of us have come to terms with what matters most. We know where we will put our time, energy, and attention once the rhythms of our days get closer to what they’d been before the virus took hold. It’s time to start leaning hard into the things that offer you joy and meaning.
Saturday, March 20th is the first day of spring, a season that has always felt to me like a time of hope. It’s a time to embrace new beginnings and to seek out the beauty that is more readily available to us. Brighter days are ahead.
How can you use this time to renew your spirit? Spend time with friends safely, if you are able. Rest. Get outdoors as the weather improves. We are all in need of rejuvenation of the mind, body, and spirit. Do what you need to do to care for yourself.
Aid for Texas
If you are able, consider giving to organizations providing food and aid directly to Texans in need in the wake of the recent winter storm disaster.

Up the line to death: covid-19 has revealed a mortal betrayal of the world’s healthcare workers
“The covid-19 pandemic is taking a harsh toll on healthcare workers. In the Mirror newspaper on 20 January 2021: “52,000 NHS staff are off sick with covid.” Over 850 UK healthcare workers are thought to have died of covid between March and December 2020; at least 3000 have died in the US. Worldwide, the death toll and the impact on the physical and mental health of healthcare workers are staggering. The long-term costs are yet to be counted.”
Inside the Worst-Hit County in the Worst-Hit State in the Worst-Hit Country
“I wanted to learn about Minot because it was exceptional: it was in the worst-performing county in the worst-performing state in the worst-performing country in the world. But I also wanted to learn about it because it didn’t seem unusual at all: the city was divided over what to do about the pandemic, and even what to think about it. I wanted to understand what made it so difficult for people to come together and address a deadly crisis.”
How Is The COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Going In Your State?
“Since vaccine distribution began in the U.S. on Dec. 14, more than 52 million doses have been administered, reaching 11.5% of the total U.S. population, according to federal data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The U.S. is currently administering over 1.6 million shots a day.”
