August Newsletter
TracySansonMD - August Newsletter - Let’s Celebrate!
August Greetings
Warm August greetings to all of you! It has been a celebratory summer so far. I’ve been able to travel with my incredible daughters, celebrate the wedding of my beautiful niece Corinne, and am still basking in the glow of the World Cup win by the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.
The team’s win made me want to host ticker-tape parades for all of the outstanding women in the world— and my own life!— doing their best to break barriers and lift one another.
It was a happy discovery, then, that many of the holidays in the month of August are meant to celebrate relationships and the extraordinary women in our lives— National Girlfriends Day, National Sister Day, National Friendship Day. So, call up a woman in your life. Whether she just graduated from college, embarked on a new adventure or won the World Cup, and tell her that you’re celebrating her and all of her wins, large and small, today and every day.
Spotlight on Charmaine Gregory MD and the Influential Motherhood Podcast!
Influential Motherhood is a podcast hosted by Melissa Duncan, whose goal is to celebrate mothers making a positive difference in the world.
Episode 27 profiles the wonderful Dr. Charmaine Gregory. In the episode, Dr. Gregory talks about learning to love her job again, homeschooling her three children, overcoming her fear of public speaking, and hosting her own podcast, Fearless Freedom with Dr. G.
Great Links From Around the Web
In keeping with the spirit of celebration, here are some links I’ve loved that celebrate and uplift girls and women.
How (and maybe why) the U.S. women’s national team made millions of fans, including this guy
“To be clear: They don’t need me. I need them.
I am sure I am not alone in this realization. I am sure there are millions of men like me, but millions of women, too; casual sports fans, or even non-sports fans. We already doted on Delran native Carli Lloyd, but over the last month we invested deeply in Alex Morgan and Tobin Heath and the marvelous Megan Rapinoe (it’s rah-PEA-no), and in their gritty supporting cast, and we fell in love with the idea of the team and with the spirit of the team and our lives are a little better.”
How empowering women and girls can help stop global warming | Katharine Wilkinson
“If we really want to address climate change, we need to make gender equity a reality, says writer and environmentalist Katharine Wilkinson. As part of Project Drawdown, Wilkinson has helped scour humanity's wisdom for solutions to draw down heat-trapping, climate-changing emissions: obvious things like renewable energy and sustainable diets and not so obvious ones, like the education and empowerment of women. In this informative, bold talk, she shares three key ways that equity for women and girls can help stop global warming. "Drawing down emissions depends on rising up," Wilkinson says.”
Where to Find Me
I’ll be hosting two mentoring sessions at the Women In Medicine Summit on Friday, September 20th and Saturday the 21st at The Drake Hotel in Chicago.
I am so excited to be a part of this conference, one designed to support healthcare professionals and work towards gender equity in medicine.
