December Newsletter - Warm Greetings!
Warm greetings to you all in the final days of 2019!
Last month, I was fortunate enough to spend time with my brother, sister, and dear friends in Israel. Traveling has always been good for my soul, and to explore a country new to me with people I love was all the more restorative.
As we approach the holiday season, I hope that each of you takes some time to do something that makes your soul sing.
Spotlight on Dr. Heather Hammerstedt
This month, I’m thrilled to feature Dr. Heather Hammerstedt, an Emergency Medicine physician in Boise, Idaho who also practices Lifestyle Medicine via online coaching.
Dr. Hammerstedt is the founder of Wholist, a coaching program that offers an intense deep dive into the what, when, and why around food and weight for each individual person— adaptive biology, metabolism shifts, mindset mastery, and personal accountability with a personal weight coach and a personal mindset coach.
She is passionate about helping busy, professional women burn through the misconceptions around healthy eating and healthy weight management, using real food and real evidence for real, sustainable results. Dr. Hammerstedt is currently at work on a 12-week transformational personal coaching program around food, mindset, and healthy weight.
You can visit her Facebook page here. And be sure to check out her podcast, Curate Your Health, wherever you get your podcasts!
Around the Web
The female problem: how male bias in medical trials ruined women's health
“Diseases presenting differently in women are often missed or misdiagnosed, and those affecting mainly women remain largely a mystery: understudied, undertreated and frequently misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. This has major knock-on effects for both medical practice and the health of women.”
#MyFirstNameIsDoctor: Why It Matters, and What You Can Do
“Objective evidence that female physicians and scientists are significantly less likely than their male peers to be addressed by their titles came in a just-published study of presentations at the annual meeting of the American Society for Clinical Oncology in 2017 and 2018.”
The Ongoing Trauma of Prematurity
“As an obstetrician-gynecologist, ’ve counseled many women about their risks of a premature delivery and delivered hundreds of premature babies, yet I didn’t think much about the ramifications after I handed the tiny newborn to the neonatal intensive care unit team. And there are many ramifications.”
